Prez Says...

by Ken Reynolds, MSDC President

Hi everyone and welcome to MSDC for April!

In last month’s Presidents  message, I told everyone of the mineral shows starting back after a long drought due to Covid-19. On March 5th and 6th there was the Delaware mineral show in Wilmington, Delaware. I wasn’t sure I was going to make the long drive, but on Sunday the 6th I decided to go ahead and make the trip. The show did not disappoint! I ran into some old friends and made some new ones and along the way I picked up some cute minerals for my collection.

Next up was the Montgomery county show held on March 19th and 20th. This was first local show in our area in a long time and was so good to be back. It was great to see so many of our local mineral friends in person. Our own past president, Dave Hennessey was there as a mineral dealer and I was able to purchase two wonderful iridescent hematite specimens from Virginia from him.

The Montgomery show also had some wonderful displays and one of them being done by Thomas Hale of FMVA ( Friends of Mineralogy of Virginia). Thomas had an incredible selection of minerals found in Virginia, many of them from historic finds.

All in all, both shows were a lot of fun but the best part about it was being able to rub shoulders with old friends and being able to catch up after such a long time!!!

I hope many of you were able to make the shows as well and look forward to hearing some of your experiences in our Zoom meeting April 6th.
